Thanks to all the ops who
helped me out to reach this goal. Some of you guys
really put in some serious effort (KH6SAT and KL7J on 80,
E74OF on 15, WY7LL on 10, K1XS on 17, W4EON on 12, and others)
to pull my signal out of the mud. First shown below is a
chart showing (mostly) the first contacts on each band from my
Reading QTH. Exceptions include NY on 80, which was a QSO I
had with my late father (Louis, WB2EZK) when I lived in Boston
and two college buddies; N1QG in VT on 80 and 40, and WA3VJB
in MD, an AM afficianado whose QSO is the only one in that
mode on this list.
And now, 160 meters!
Among the many reasons I love my company's holiday shutdown is that I can hit 160 in the early morning hours (between 0900 and 1200 UTC). After capturing North Dakota back in 2013 it took six more years before, in December of 2019, I would nab my final two states for WAS on the Gentleman's Band, Alaska and Hawaii (within a day of each other!) Here are the the modes and the dates of my first (and, in some cases, only) QSO with each of the 50 US states. No surprise the vast majority were made in December and, I note, that the further away the state the more I relied on digital modes (a lot of JT65 and a few FT8) to complete WAS. Thank you to all the patient hams who helped me achieve this personal ham goal.
