Extra study guides
These are the resources I used to pass my Extra exam.
To begin, there is no substitute for learning the material, and this
book, published by the ARRL, explains everything you need to know in a
clear and concise manner. Every page or so you are directed to the
questions that relate to that material you have just been taught. There's also a book (as well as CDs and other material) for the Technician and General tests that you can purchase. Visit the ARRl site here to find out more.
Once you've studied the material, there are serveral web sites that
present sample tests. (There's no reason, in my opinion, to pay a
fee for this service, as these sites are each outstanding in their own
way and none charge a fee, although two accept donations).
KB0MGA The best (again, my opinion) is the site
under development by
KB0MGA.
As Ron, the site's creator explains: "This site tries to learn which questions
you know, and which ones you don't by keeping track of your answers."
What that means is that after you have registered and started taking the
sample exams, you will be tested more frequently on the questions that
you miss. There's also a Flash Card mode, which tells you, with each
question, if you got the correct answer.
QRZ The QRZ folks developed
this
site which provides instant feedback for each question asked, along with a running total score.
AA9PW Last, but not least, is the site of
AA9PW. This excellent site also presents a random selection of possible test questions and provides a score at the end of your exam, along with correct answers for those you might have missed.
