W3EAX: University of Maryland

I attended the University of Martyland from 1976 to 1978 (as a transfer student) and was very involved in both the student "broadcast" radio station, WMUC (which was actually carrier current,) and the Amateur Radio Club, W3EAX.

A proud member.  Judging by the signature I guess I was also the Secretary and Treasurer.  Gee, I had forgotten that....  Anyway, here are some pictures of the ham club in action.

Gotta paint the tower, but no one had a ladder.  No problem.  Dave, WB2HTO (in the hat on the right next to Mike, WA3WDO) just drove his car into the backyard, we covered it with a tarp, and did the job.  Uh oh.  Problem.  That spring Maryland mud.  Dave's car got stuck and we had to call a tow-truck tp pull it out.

W3EAX/3, broadcasting in front of the Student Union Building as part of a public relations plan to let UMD students know about ham radio.  That's Rick, WA3UOO (now K8SV) and WA3SXH and George, WB3EMQ.

Rick, SXH, and George.  If you look at the previous picture you'll see the front of a car on the right.  That's Dave, WB2HTO's car, which once again got pressed into service.  This time, it was to use his 20-meter mobile antenna to broadcast.

Dave, WB2HTO and Rick, WA3UOO working the world.  Note the informational board we created for the event on the left.

From left to right: Dave WB2HTO; Ken WA3WHE, and Mike WA3WDO.  Rick WA3UOO is taking the picture of Paul WA3VJB, who took this shot.  W3EAX was running communications for a Fraternity/Sorority charity event.  Note first the club T-shirts, which I doubt any of us can fit into anymore.  And the high-tech handhelds, especially the one Mike is holding...
